Fertilisers
FAI wants `total decontrol' of urea industry
THE Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) has sought total decontrol of the urea industry, which it says is preferable to the prevailing situation of `uncertainty' in policymaking vis-a-vis the sector.

Fertiliser use down
THE drought situation prevailing in large parts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan due to poor South-West monsoon precipitation has taken a heavy toll on fertiliser consumption this year.

Plantations
Global pepper exports up 7 pc
PEPPER exports from major producers increased 7 per cent to 1.41 lakh tonnes during January-October 2000 as compared to 1.32 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period in 1999, according to the Jakarta-based International Pepper Community (IPC).

Tea
Lukewarm demand for leaf tea at Kochi
A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction last week. Though a good general demand was witnessed at the dust sale, it was comparatively low in leaf varieties.
