Banking and Finance
Cheque dishonour
The recent ruling of the Madras High Court that in the case of dishonour, a cheque issuing company must be held responsible for cognisance of guilt under the Negotiable Instruments Act, has come as an eye opener. In the case cited, the company's name was not included as a party in the complaint, though in the notices, it was pointed out that the company was liable to pay the money.

Foreign Trade
Chinese competition
Chinese goods in many sectors, including basic drugs, electrical/electronic items and toys, are hitting the Indian manufacturers hard. The Chinese products' prices are so much lower than the Indian equivalents that consumers are actually going in search of them.
