THE India branch of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) has set up a tax academy -- `IFA International Tax Academy' -- to undertake research and studies on international tax issues, tax management and tax administration.

THE national-level conference of Commercial Taxes Commissioners from States held here has opined that the proposed amendment of the Central Sales Tax (CST) Act presents an ideal opportunity for the introduction of a Uniform Commodity Nomenclature, Classi fication and Coding (UCNCC) mechanism for inter-State and intra-State taxation in the country.

THE annual rate of inflation measured in terms of the wholesale price index (WPI) on a point-to-point basis remained unchanged at 8.16 per cent for the latest recorded week ended January 6, 2001. Thus, the WPI-based inflation rate has ruled above the eig ht per cent mark for the fifth consecutive week.

Infrastructure industries clock 7.7 pc growth in April-Dec
THE six infrastructure industries namely electricity, coal, steel, crude petroleum, petroleum refinery products and cement have registered a growth of 7.7 per cent in the first nine months of the current fiscal (April-December 2000).
