To enable the SSI sector to cope with the emerging challenges of globalisation and cheap imports, the President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, Mr Shekhar Bajaj, suggested a six-point strategy, backed by a sou nd policy environment.

E-governance
Pradesh, have gone ahead with the phased implementation of e-governance. The recent Nasscom Workshop 2001 in Mumbai devoted an entire session to this subject (Business Line, February 9). The speaker from Andhra Pradesh set the tone for the session by saying: ``E-governance involves more than technology''. Since several agencies are involved in the design and implementation of the e-governance plan in the States, definitions and objectives must be clearly spelt out to achieve the commonality of goals and avoid unnecessary overlapping.
