THE foot-and-mouth disease, wide-spread in the European Union countries, is likely to have its negative impact on the exports of spices from the country.

Time for steps to protect oilseed growers
THE Prime Minister has constituted a Group of Ministers drawn from Finance, Food and Agriculture ministries among others with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency in edible oils through higher productivity of oilseeds and improved quality, Mr Shanta Kum ar, Union Minister for Food, Consumer Affair and Public Distribution announced. He was addressing the 22nd All-India Seminar on Rabi Oilseed Crops here on Sunday.

KARANJI oil (pongimia), an extract of `Kanuga' seeds grown in the Telangana region, has been found to be a good substitute for diesel for running generators and pumpsets efficiently.

High hopes, low output resulted in CTC fall: Report
THE circumstances resulting in a depressed domestic market for CTC teas for well over six months in 2000 have been attributed to the sizeable drop in tea production in 1999 and the tea industry's expectations of a strong market.

Good demand for CTC variety at Guwahati auction
CTC offerings at Guwahati met with good demand. There was better enquiry for cheapest categories which sold at firm to dearer rates. Higher priced and all end-of-season descriptions however, were irregularly lower following quality. Few clean cachars on offer saw good competition, others sold at irregular rates.
