Apeejay launches Paul Foundation
Our Bureau
KOLKATA, May 9
THE Apeejay Surrendra Group today announced the launch of The Paul Foundation with a corpus of Rs 4 crore to support deserving and needy students who are pursuing academic goals in India and abroad.
A large number of promising students, according to Mr Karan Paul of the Apeejay group, are unable to pursue their chosen careers due to financial problems. The foundation would help them use the right opportunity, enable them to go for higher studies and
emerge as leaders in their respective fields.
Candidates with strong capabilities -- yet with limited resources or without access to external sources of funds -- would be chosen in an unbiased manner.
An urge to do good to society would be at the core of the foundation, Mr Paul told newspersons. A board of governors, which would include members of the Paul family, would direct the work of the foundation. The Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University,
or a person nominated by him, would also be on the board.
The foundation would provide scholarships in five categories -- graduate studies, post-graduate studies, professional courses in India, creative pursuits and professional courses for special persons in association with the National Centre for Employment
of Disables Persons.
The grant would cover only that part of a student's study programme which is not financed by other means. Scholarships would not be granted to candidates who have already started on a course/project abroad.
