Volkswagen keen on sourcing from India

NEW DELHI, May 16

THE German automobile major, Volkswagen, one of the world's largest passenger car manufacturers, has evinced keen interest in sourcing automobile equipment and components from auto ancillary units in India.

According to the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), the German company indicated its keenness to source from India when the former's business delegation visited Volkwagen's manufacturing facilities at Hannover recently.

The week-long visit of the IGCC delegation coincided with the Hannover and Nuremberg trade fairs where it discussed the possibilities of joint collaborations with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) not only from Germany, but also from Switzerland and ot her European countries taking part at these expositions.

The areas chosen for technical collaboration include rice milling plants, injection moulding machinery, laundry plants using CNG technology and some specialised machinery.

IGCC also mentioned that SMEs play a prominent role in the German economy, accounting for 60 per cent of the total production and 75 per cent of the employment in the manufacturing sector.

IGCC is the largest bilateral trade organisation in the country, with over 6,500 members and is also the largest German chamber abroad.
