Money matters
All along, the fiscal deficit has been a major cause of concern. And the Finance Ministry may consider the suggestion, `Services tax expansion can bridge fiscal deficit' (Business Line, May 25) seriously. Successive finance ministers have introduced sche
mes to earn income _ to bridge fiscal deficits by converting black money into white. If they know the sources of the black money, why can they not take stricter action to curb it?
Politics
Politics pays
This refers to `Poverty of politics' (Business Line May 26). There is abundant prosperity for people who take to politics. When N. T. Rama Rao started the Telugu Desam Party he posed the question: ``How have these people, with no ostensible means of live
lihood, with their meagre salaries of MLAs and ministers, become billionaires? If my party comes to power, I will have these investigated and disgorge all of them of all the riches they have amassed''.
Telecommunications
Telecom rights
World Telecom Day was celebrated recently. While the authorities have made many promises, subscribers on their part should understand their rights and responsibilities. In this context, the Citizens' Charter issued by Department of Telecom Services and D
epartment of Telecom Operations, will be useful. It gives subscribers the right to redressal of complaints, time-bound norms set by the Department for installing new connections, repairing dead phones, shifting telephones, etc.
