Policy
Tobacco Bill
Despite the good intentions of the Central Government, making cigarettes more expensive and trying to regulate tobacco manufacturers out of existence will not achieve the goals that the supporters of the Tobacco Bill desire. In fact, the Bill, toothless without measures to check cigarette smuggling, is all set to become a bonanza for the grey market that peddles international brands from across the borders. The Government will also lose revenues in the process.

Terrorism
Neighbour trouble
Recent news reports refer to the treaty between China and Myanmar that allows the former to access Myanmarese ports in the Indian Ocean. Ostensibly, this is meant to increasing Chinas trade. China has also promised financial assistance to Pakistan. The r eal import of these moves is greater.
