Will 2002 be better?

The editorial, `Year of the bear' (Business Line, December 31) has pointed out that there are few signs of the deficit being reined in, and the prospects of an economic rebound do not look good.

And in `India in 2002: Que sera sera?'(Business Line, December 31), the author has cautioned that if the political leadership ignores these signs, the results may be disastrous.

December 13 should lead us to think seriously not only about security and war, but also about building the economy to meet any eventuality.

The slashing of telephone rates is the outcome of competition. Could this spirit percolate to other industries to boost them and benefit consumers?

There is hope that the Government will give more importance to agriculture. Can we expect a better 2002?
