Pakistan's stand

Following the diplomatic offensives launched by India, and the pressure exerted by the international community, it is noteworthy that Pakistan has at last relented and moved to rein in the terrorist groups on its soil.

However, the military ruler's decision to skip Indian skies to reach Kathmandu for the SAARC meet does not go well with the present surcharged situation.

This is especially so when India has extended the hand of alliance.

Though Pakistani leaders wax eloquent on the oft-made statement that they are ready for a dialogue anytime, anywhere and at any level, unless they take credible steps to root out terrorist activities on their own soil, their country's stated position will remain suspect.

India considers the December 13 attack on Parliament the last straw on the camel's back, and, Pakistan should respond positively and responsibly.
