Industry Associations Nasscom to focus on product companies Our Bureau
BANGALORE: Software product companies are finally finding a voice of their own in an industry dominated by service companies. In the first ever product company meeting organised under the the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) umbrella, industry sources said that product companies needed a different approach in terms of policy, financing and marketing. In fact, Nasscom 2002 has a special session on product companies. Addressing a conspicuosly small gathering on Friday, the Vice-President, Mr Som Mittal, Nasscom, said the product and service companies were actually merging into each other. Service companies were trying to productise their businesses while product companies were also offering services. Most Indian product companies are small and unlisted, he said. There is a huge market in medium and small industry, which is not being tapped, he said. One way of entering the business was to acuqire one of the large number of products which are available internationally but haven't been marketed well. Digital GlobalSoft itself acquired some products from its parent recently.
