Power Pvt sector to be in N-power field Our Bureau HYDERABAD: The private sector can look forward to building nuclear power plants, with more than 51 per cent equity share in joint ventures by the end of 2004, according to Mr V.K. Chaturvedi, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of the Nuclear Power Corporation (NPC). Quoting an expert committee recommendation on the proposed amendments to the Atomic Energy Act, 1962, Mr Chaturvedi expressed confidence that the `ticklish' issues would be sorted out and private participation would be allowed to accelerate the country's nuclear power programme. The NPC, which drives the country's nuclear power programme is gearing itself to float a subsidiary company and is also looking at joint ventures. The private players would be allowed to bring equity, design, build and operate power plants. Ticklish issues such as safety of the plant and strategic interests were being thrashed out by the committee, Mr Chaturvedi told presspersons.
