KOLKATA, Jan. 28

THE annual Calcutta Book Fair, now in its 27th year, has officially been rechristened `Kolkata Book Fair'.

Presenting the highlights of the 12-day fair, set to open on Wednesday, Mr Kalyan Saha, Secretary, Publishers & Booksellers Guild, organisers of the fair, told newspersons here today that all controversy over the nomenclature of the fair has now been set at rest.

This year onwards, the fair, which last year attracted some 2.5 million visitors, will be known as Kolkata Book Fair, he clarified.

Senior citizens, for the first time in the history of the fair, would be allowed free entry subject to submission of proof of age. Keeping in mind the recent terrorist activity in West Bengal, the fair organisers have paid special attention to security arrangements at the fair grounds, and at the entry point.

The focal theme country for this year's fair being the Netherlands, it will be inaugurated by Ms Rita Rehman, noted writer, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission in the Royal Embassy of the Netherlands, New Delhi.
