NEW DELHI, Jan. 28

IN an effort to encourage people to travel more, the Association of Asian Pacific Airlines (AAPA) and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) are launching a print and television campaign called `Travel moves people' from Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, the PATA President, Mr Peter De Jong, said that the campaign was meant to show people what fun it is to travel. "The two-month long campaign is being driven by the airlines of the region and is meant to restore the confidence of the travelling public," Mr Jong said.

The advertising campaign is to appear on CNN besides full-page advertisements in various leading international dailies, the PATA President said.

Mr Jong also said that the association had asked all Governments to help their national airlines in whatever way possible to overcome the adverse effects of September 11.

Meanwhile, the 51st five-day PATA annual conference opens in Delhi on April 14. "India and China are seen by the travel industry as the power house of the century certainly in the field of travel and tourism," Mr Jong said.

At the press conference, the Director-General Tourism, Mr V.K. Duggal, expressed confidence that the annual PATA conference will help the country attract more tourists. The DG Tourism added that the on going border tensions were unlikely to affect the attendance at the conference.
