TOURISTS opting for packages can now avoid the arduous process of waiting out at the counters. Instead they can obtain their confirmed itinerary and hotel bookings at the click of a mouse.

Taking the cue from global distribution system prevalent in the airlines industry, the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) has developed an Internet-based online reservation system for providing tickets for its package tours and room reservation for its Mayura group of hotels in the State.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr K.V.R. Tagore, Managing Director, KSTDC, said was a comprehensive Web site designed to give detailed information about the tourism spots and provide instant tickets at the customer end.

It has tied up with some outside agencies such as the Cybecafes for longer reach to customers to distribute tickets on demand.

Authorised counters of KSTDC, including the Cybecafes would become the channels for distribution of tickets on demand and collect payments on behalf of KSTDC.

Mr Sunil Khimsura, Managing Director of Netsansaar Technologies Ltd, the company which has signed an agreement with KSTDC under build, operate and transfer basis, said there was scope for expanding the facility to other tourism corporations.

KSTDC, which also signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, has also offered to host in its Web site Tamil Nadu's tourism information and other data as part of joint promotional efforts to improve visibility of the important tourism circuits.

Mr V. Varaprasad, Rao, Commissioner (Tourism), Tamil Nadu Tourism Department, said the State offered attractive destinations for tourists supported by infrastructure facilities for the visitors' comfortable stay. He hoped the joint marketing strategy would strengthen the efforts to step up inflow of visitors into these two States.
