Bharti aims to be one-stop shop

G. Rambabu

NEW DELHI, Feb. 7

THINK of the Bharti group and the image that comes to mind is that of a mega telecom company with a big footprint in the cellular sector and aspirations in the basic, national long-distance and international long-distance services.

There is however, a more promising sector - broadband services for the corporate segment - where the group has made inroads but has not drawn enough attention.

Bharti Broadband Networks Ltd. (BBNL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bharti Tele-ventures has created a singular platform for developing integrated business solutions for customers in different market segments. The company has managed to effectively utilise the available bandwidth, including that form the subsidiaries and resell the same to the customers, rather than incur significant additional capital expenditures to establish that capacity.

According to Mr. Ashok Juneja, CEO, BBNL, the company has integrated the groups cellular, basic, Internet and VSAT operations to offer secure and reliable end-to-end network solutions to the corporate customers, a first of its kind in the country.

"The company is successfully leveraging the bandwidth available in the subsidiaries thorough its nationwide fibre optic backbone, last-mile connectivity in fixed line and cellular circles, VSATs and international bandwidth access through the gateways and landing stations'', he noted.

Mr. Juneja pointed out that for this purpose, they have developed a three-tier network architecture Networkthree. Which has the capability to offer robust and cost effective network solutions to enterprises for their mission critical applications.

"Networkthree offers the first layer of fibre optic connectivity through Bharti's own backbone. The second tier comprises Internet services and the third will leverage its strengths in the SATCOM business'', he said.

Pointing out that the product offers security, scalability, demand for seamless connectivity, cost benefits, dependency on network to run any application, convenience, obsolescence as well as last-mile solutions, Mr. Juneja noted that in the markets where the company intends to offer a full range of services, it would aim to provide our customers with a "one-stop-shop'' solution for their communication needs.

"We believe that this approach will enable us to meet the needs of a larger portion of customers telecommunications requirements, thereby enhancing our revenues and can meet the total telecom requirements of the customers by providing end-to-end connectivity'', he said.

The growth in the economy, increased globalisation of Indian business and continuing efforts to develop and integrate the latest technologies into their operations, together with the emergence of India as a potential centre for outsourced software development will contribute to increased demand for data transmission services.
