`Lack of power reforms affecting Kerala industries'

Our Bureau

KOCHI, Feb. 8

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Southern Region has submitted a memorandum to the Kerala Government highlighting the problems faced by industries in the power sector in the State.

The memorandum highlights several issues and concerns of the industry such as over-invoicing due to the failure on the part of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), the over ten-fold hike in electrical inspection charge, granting of incentives for high load factor and high power factor, inordinate delay in providing connections to new industrial units, denial of additional power allocation to HT industrial consumers, etc.

The chamber urged the Government to immediately constitute the Electricity Tariff Regulatory Commission and to speed up the power reforms process in the State. It also sought delinking of the allotment of mini-hydel projects from KSEB.

It also suggested that incentives may be offered to industrial units having peak zone consumption of less than 10 per cent so that there would be further reduction in consumption.
