Boston Software to expand operations

V. Rishi Kumar

HYDERABAD, Feb.8

THE Boston Group, which specialises in e-learning technologies supporting online framework, has drawn up plans to ramp up India operations.

The Country Manager of the Boston Software, a 100-per cent subsidiary of the Boston Group, Mr S. Vinod Kumar, told Business Line that "the company is in the process of expanding its India operations. While the present facility at Hyderabad is to be upgraded, we will soon establish a centre in New Delhi.''

The US firm, which has recently launched Intralearn for a range of online applications in India, has tied up with HR services major, Hewitt Associates India, for its e-learning initiatives and with M.K. Raju Consultants to support its clientele in management-related services.

With HR firms realising the significance of creating a winning strategy before embarking on an elaborate implementation programme, they are seeking to bring in internal efficiencies and reaching out its users, he said.

With over 14 years of efforts towards building products and services handling e-learning applications, the US-based firm has over 550 clients spread across the world. "The offshore development centre at Hyderabad is working at peak potential and we are in the process of expanding the centre," he said.

The company flagship application, Intralearn, is supplied in fourteen foreign languages. The Arabic version is ready for release. "This facilitates in creating a virtual campus that makes it useful for corporate training and cut costs particularly in these challenging times," Mr Kumar said.

"In India we started with the IDRBT and are now working with the Government of Andhra Pradesh as also with pratham.org, a portal promoted for mass education by ICICI, British Airways and CRY. Lately, we have tied up with a management consultant and Hewitt to develop a portal for competency building", Mr Kumar said.

The Intralearn solutions are designed for three segments - Intralearn SME, Intralearn XE (extended enterprise) and Intralearn e360. While SME is a simple learning management system, covering administration, content and usage, XE is for organisations spread globally. This can also operate on regional languages as it is based on a database server.

"On the other hand e360, which was recently launched, is a combination of learning management embedded with skills management. With this solution, the first hit was with Hewitt Associates. In the Asia-Pacific region, we are associated with Citibank, Singapore, Hongkong Bank and with the Pakistan's virtual university,'' he said.

"For Andhra Pradesh, we are working with Setwin, aimed at providing solutions for the educated unemployed youth in enhancement of their skills in hotel management, computing and building up IT skills,'' Mr Kumar said.
