HYDERABAD, Feb. 8

THE Andhra Pradesh Government is on course to unveil a blueprint for e-governance that will open up opportunities for IT companies to participate in various e-governance initiatives in the State.

The State IT Secretary, Mr J. Satyanarayana, said that the Government has charted out the strategy and this blueprint will open up opportunities for IT companies.

This document will form the basis for various e-governance initiatives of the State Government.

Detailing the State's IT and communication strategy, Mr Satyanarayana said that the Government has recently unveiled host of policy initiatives for IT-enabled services, hardware policy, land allotment policy for IT companies - all aimed at attracting investments in the sector.

"Based on this blueprint, we will be able to leverage the public private participatory (PPP) model and attract investments in the sector".

From a budget of only Rs 8 crore for the IT sector in 1999-2000, the Government had increased the budgetary allocation to Rs 50 crore this fiscal, he said.

"Next fiscal, we have projected a total budgetary requirement of about Rs 90 crore. However, a range of other projects is under way. We plan to use some of the funds provided by DFID, the UK and the World Bank,'' the State Minister for ITES and Employment Generation, Mr B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, said.

Commenting on the IT exports scenario, which is set to impact the overall exports from the State, Mr Satyanarayana said that as against a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 100 per cent each year over the last seven years, it had gone up by 81 per cent last year to Rs 2,000 crore.

This year, the State would have a growth of about 30 per cent, mainly due to the events of September 11.

"This means the State will have total annual exports of about Rs 2,600 crore. As against total exports of Rs 1,100 crore during the nine months ended December 2000, for the nine months ended December 2001, the State had recorded total exports of about Rs 1,650 crore,'' he said.
