SCI seafarers observe one-day stir

Our Bureau

MUMBAI, Feb. 22

A SECTION of seafarers employed by the Shipping Corporation of India vessels went on a one-day strike today to protest the Government's decision to divest its majority stake in the company.

Barring minor disruption at some ports, the strike did not have any impact on SCI services, an SCI official said.

However, the Forward Seamen's Union of India (FSUI), which had called the strike, claimed that strike was 100 per cent successful and 85 SCI vessels were affected.

"There has been no disruption in SCI's activities and there has been no financial impact on our business,'' said a senior SCI official when contacted.

He said only one cargo vessel docked at the Kolkata port was affected.
