BANGALORE, Feb. 27 A ONE-DAY biotechnology meeting to highlight the growth potential of the sector will be held here on March 7. The meet will map the unique competitive advantage of the biotechnology industry which has the prospects of strong strategic partnerships with global biopharmaceuticals sector. Prof Utz Claassen, CEO of the Sartorius AG Group and Chairman of its Executive Board, and Dr Uwe Gotttschalk, head of protein purification facility, Bayer AG, will be the key speakers representing the biotech and biopharmaceuticals industry. The meet on `From genomics to biopharmaceuticals' is being organised by Sartorius India. According to Mr Cherian Philip, Chairman and Managing Director, Sartorius India, the biotech engineering industry was uniquely poised to own the value chain in the biopharmaceutical's process chain. Given the complexities of the process chain, from research and development to production, the biotech engineering industry can offer value-added services such as bio-facilities, contract research, knowledge management and other infrastructure and support services to shorten timelines from preliminary engineering and development to regulatory approval for a commercial proposition. Bio drugs accounts for $25 billion of the global pharmaceuticals industry.
