Rotary honour for Ramesh Pai

Our Bureau

BANGALORE, March 22

BUILDING strong community leadership has become necessary to offset the failure of political leadership. The lofty protestation by the political class notwithstanding, the social objectives of education and healthcare remained neglected, Mr T. Ramesh Pai, Chairman Emeritus, Kurlon Ltd, said.

Mr Pai was speaking at a function organised by the Bangalore Management Association, the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the All India Manufacturers' Organisation (Karnataka), here on Thursday to honour him with the Rotary International's "Service Above Self'' award.

Stating that politics should be kept away from the pursuit of social objectives, he said organisations such as Rotary International had an important role to play in building community-leadership.

Mr Pai was honoured for his contribution in promoting the cause of education and healthcare through several social projects and programmes launched by the Manipal Group.
