Students urged to work with vision

THE former Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, today exhorted the graduates of XLRI to have a vision before them to attain excellence in their respective fields of work. He was delivering the convocation address at the 46th Annual Convocation Ceremony of the management school.

He also urged students to take up untrodden paths, and in this context referred to the indomitable spirit of Mahatma Gandhi and scientists such as C.V. Raman, Jagadish Chandra Bose and Meghnad Saha, among others. XLRI awarded Mr M.S. Banga, Chairman of Hindustan Lever Ltd, the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace.

The JRD Tata Award for Business Ethics was given to Mr N. Ram, Editor of Frontline, Sportstar and Business Line.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Ram spoke on the subject of media and ethics and of the great "Indian media bazaar".
