E-Commerce & E-Business Playwin pact with Karnataka for e-lottery Our Bureau
PLAY TIME: Online lottery is the latest fad in Bangalore. At this terminal set up by Essel group's Playwin Infravest, the electronic gaming scheme, priced Rs 10, seems to give a fair fight to the traditional paper lottery.
BANGALORE, March 26 PLAYWIN Infravest, the country's first online lottery operator, will shortly launch online lottery for Karnataka under the name Lucky Lotto. The Essel Group-owned company recently signed a licence agreement with the State Government in this regard. Though Karnataka was the first to call for bids for e-lottery, Playwin has already made a beginning through an agreement with Sikkim and Maharashtra and is due to sign another with Tamil Nadu. Playwin CEO, Mr Sanjay Das, said here today that the Sikkim game had been on since March 5 and was due for its first draw on March 29. The company has invested Rs 300 crore for setting up the infrastructure. Till date, it has made 1.7 million lottery sales through 2,000 terminals across the country. It plans to increase the terminals to 3,500 by April-end. Targeted mainly at the middle and upper classes, which do not play paper lottery, e-lottery in Bangalore is run by 81 dealers. This would be increased to 200 soon, he added. Mr Kulbir Ahuja, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, said the franchises would be popular places like fast food joints, grocery stores and supermarkets.
