Cotton Pick-up in cotton yarn export likely G. Gurumurthy
COIMBATORE, April 5 AFTER being in the cold for nearly three months, cotton yarn export seems to be headed for a warmer patch as Indian yarn shippers are getting favourable enquiries, especially from the Far-Eastern markets. There has been some improvement in price quotes as well for the past week, according to local yarn trade sources. The enquiries are mostly for 20s to 40s-count range and the quoted rates are some 5 to 6 per cent higher from last shipments booked. Exporting textile units, which are hoping on a recovery in prices for yarn and fabric by June, were wary of committing their prices for May and June shipments, textile industry sources told Business Line. The sources say both cotton yarn and fabric will come for better enquiry later this year. Renewed buying prospects are seen in some of the Far-Eastern markets for textile products. Some of the dominant US retail stores such as Gap and Wal-Mart which had put off buying last year are said to have resumed purchases this year; this, according to the textile traders, has renewed buying enquiries from garmenting units in the Far-Eastern countries which supply to the US stores.
