Books The Spirit of Lagaan launched in Mumbai Our Bureau
Our Bureau MUMBAI, April 17
The book, authored by Satyajit Bhatkal, documents the entire process of making the film, capturing the ambience during the six month-long shooting schedule in Kutch, Gujarat.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Kamath said, "An eminently unputdownable book. The book is about emotion and brings out laughter.''
For Mr Kamath who had not read a novel for the past five years, reading the book was an enjoyable experience. ` The book came alive like scenes from a film,'' he said.
Mr Bhatkal, a lawyer by profession, was drawn into this project by his childhood friend, actor Aamir Khan.
" Shooting the film through a single schedule that lasted for six months in the deserts of Kutch was not easy, especially with the varied mix of people drawn from various cultures - English, Canadian, European, Bollywood employees and thousands of Kutchi villagers. Lagaan, therefore, was a melting pot,'' Mr Bhatkal said.
"It was the creation of a magical madness in those incredibly tough desert-like conditions,'' he added.
For Aamir Khan, reading the book was akin to reliving the experiences of those six months.
" I was in tears when I read the book,'' he said. The actor, his director Mr Ashutosh Gowariker and Mr Bhatkal read passages from the book.
