Bio-tech & Genetics Biotech incubation centre planned in Genome Valley Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, May 2 HAVING initiated various measures towards aggressively promoting biotechnology in the State, the Andhra Pradesh Government has now decided to set up a biotechnology incubation centre in the Genome Valley, which is being developed in an area of 60 sq km here with all the infrastructural facilities required. Announcing this while inaugurating the three-day International conference on "Emerging Trends in Biotechnology'' here on Thursday, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, said the Government was also setting up the Indian Institute of Life Sciences (IILS) at the campus of the University of Hyderabad aimed at promoting the basic Research and Development activities in biotechnology and pharmaceutical industrial segments. The International conference is being jointly organised by the AP Government, All India Biotech Association (AIBA), Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) and the Department of Animal Sciences, University of Hyderabad. According to Mr Naidu, the Government had recently set up a Rs 90-crore venture capital fund through the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (APIDC) Venture Capital Ltd for supporting the start-ups in the biotechnology arena. The Government was also seriously considering to increase the size of the fund depending on the response, he said.
