TN grains trade plea on rebate

MADURAI: The Tamilnadu Foodgrains Merchants' Association while welcoming the partial roll back in the Finance Minister's original budget proposals, has appealed for restoration of 20 per cent rebate on the exemption granted under Section 88.

In a statement here, the President, Mr V.K.M. Sankaralingam, said the roll-back announcements would help common man.

The exclusion of telephone connections as one of the criterion in the one-by-six scheme under the Income-Tax Act and the announcement of service tax on life insurance to cover only the risk premium, were the major sops delivered.

The increase in the savings limit to Rs 1 lakh would encourage the savings habit. The
