Karnataka Govt scheme to popularise farm tools

BANGALORE, May 2

NABARD is expected to assist the Karnataka Government in popularising the agricultural implements among the small farmers, the State Agriculture Minister, Mr T.B. Jayachandra, here today said.

Speaking at the National Agriculture Machineries Exhibition, Mr Jayachandra said the Government is trying to evolve a scheme wherein it plans to popularise agriculture implements through the Raitha Samparka Kendra even while making them affordable for small and marginal farmers. "I have spoken to Nabard about the proposed scheme and they have shown interest in it,'' he added.

With the decreasing arable land and increasing population, the major challenge before us is to improve productivity. "Proper and timely usage of agriculture implements would help us to overcome this challenge,'' he said. There is an estimated 15-20 per cent loss in our crop output because of the lack of timely activities, he added.
