RoC cancels new appointments

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 6

THE Registrar of Co-operative Societies (RoC) has notified suspension for a period of six months of all appointments and promotions with respect to posts up to the level of junior clerks in primary societies.

It has, however, exempted from the scope of the order urban co-operative banks which come under the control of the Reserve Bank of India, as also the newly registered co-operative banks and societies.

Direct appointments to posts from the level of junior clerks and upwards in primary societies are made by the Co-operative Service Examination Board.

Appointments to posts below are executed by the administrators of the societies.

The RoC's action comes in the wake of cases of administrators having appointed those with higher educational qualifications to lower posts and then upgrading them as junior clerks through reclassification or promotion.

All credit co-operatives have been told to strictly enforce the order in its entirety.
