NMPT sees surge in bulk cargo movement

MANGALORE: While container traffic is said to be picking up at New Mangalore Port, the movement of conventional bulk cargo too is gaining momentum, according to NMPT officials.

With the arrival of new cargo such as magnesite ore from Mysore, to be exported to Bahrain shortly, and Kudremukh Iron and Steel Company (KISCO) expected to commence its export of pig iron to Taiwan, overall throughput is expected to increase. Also, according to an NMPT official, MV Ever Dignity carrying 31,227 tonnes of coke from China for VISL, Bhadravathy, arrived at the port on April 30. A record quantity of 7,400 tonnes of coke was handled at the port on May 2, the highest quantity of coke handled in a day.
