`Textile exports not hit by tension on Indo-Pak border'

COIMBATORE, June 6

THE Union Textiles Minister, Mr Kashiram Rana, has said the $15-billion export target fixed for the textile sector for the current fiscal is achievable and the tension in the Indo-Pak borders have not made any impact on textile exports. "On the contrary, the textiles exports have picked up in the past two months," said Mr Rana who was here on his way to Tirupur where he is scheduled to address the annual general meeting of the Federation of Hosiery Manufacturers Associations (FOHMA) to be held on Friday.

As for the apparel parks planned in major textile centres in the country, the Union Minister said about 16 proposals had been received from different State Governments for locating the parks. With regard to the move to set up an apparel park exclusively for Tirupur, Mr Rana said so far no proposal had been received from the Tamil Nadu Government for Tirupur park and the Centre would give priority if it received one because Tirupur happened to be a major exporting centre in the country.
