CII biotech team to visit Canada, US

NEW DELHI, June 6

A 20-member biotech mission of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is to visit the US and Canada from June 9.

The main objective of the delegation's 10-day visit is to explore the possibilities of setting up partnership and joint ventures with international companies, especially those of the US and Canada and to learn about the latest developments in the international arena. The delegation is being led by the Chairman and Managing Director, Biocon India Ltd, Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw. The delegation will also take part in the Bio 2002 International Convention and Exhibition, scheduled to begin in Toronto on June 9.

Besides, the delegation will meet with the President of Bio, Mr Carl Feldbaum, and the Minister for Innovation and Science, Alberta, Mr Victor Doerksen.

During the six-day visit to the US, the team will have interaction with US biotech companies including Incyte Genomics, Affymax, Affymetrix and Genentech. A Biotech roundtable on `Building an Indo-US nexus' is also being organised.
