GIS mapping of water systems

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: The Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board is setting up GIS-based mapping of its jurisdiction covering 300 sq km in Bangalore. The system will be in place in six months. A first for any water utility in the country, GIS mapping was taken up under the Undo-French protocol to build a database of water and sewerage channels for easier maintenance. The project began in June 1999 and is estimated to cost nearly Rs 99 crore, of which 6 million francs is from French aid. The rest is being raised through loans.
