MUMBAI, June 30

MR Sarthak Behuria has taken over as Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. He takes over from Mr U. Sundararajan, who retired earlier this year.

Mr Behuria, who has been with BPCL since 1973, held the office of Director (Marketing) in the company.

He is also the Director (Operations) of the Oil Coordination Committee, a news release says.

Mr Behuria was appointed BPCL's Executive Director (Sales) in June 1995. According to the company release, he has contributed to building BPCL's corporate image through "massive upgradation of retail outlets''.

BPCL currently markets about 20 million tonnes of products through a network of 150 terminals and bottling plants, 4,700 retail outlets, 1,700 LPG distributors and 1,000 kerosene dealers, the release says.

Mr Behuria has been closely associated with the oil sector deregulation and formulation of the regulatory bill for the downstream sector, the release says.
