TN trade association calls for revoking resale tax

MADURAI: The Joint Action Committee and representatives of Trade and Industrial Associations of Tamil Nadu have decided to observe a total bandh and fast to draw the attention of the Government to its 12 demands.

At a conference of the associations held at Salem, a number of resolutions were passed that included the necessity for the immediate withdrawal of resale tax (multi-point tax) which had severely affected small and medium- sized traders and general public and for the removal of levy of sales tax on rice, wheat, pulses and grams jaggery and edible oil.
