VIJAYAWADA, July 15

THE third rail bridge across the Krishna would be completed by the year-end and it would become operational during the current financial year, Mr R. Ramanathan, Divisional Railway Manager, has said.

At a press meet here on Monday, he said there had been some delay in construction of the bridge, but the work was being expedited now. He said Jana Satabdhi Express train between Chennai and Vijayawada would be introduced within two or three months and the rakes would have to be allotted yet.

In the current year, Rs 6 crore would be spent on passenger amenities in the division. During the current mango season, 45 mango specials had left for Naya Azadpur (New Delhi) from Nuzvidu station in Krishna district, fetching Rs 3.85 crore, as against 37 specials last season fetching Rs 3.03 crore, even though the yields had suffered greatly this season, he said.

Surveillance cameras would be installed in the railway station here to curb criminal activities.

Platforms would be extended at many stations in the division during the current year.
