NEW DELHI, July 22

DATA Access India Ltd, a joint venture between SPA Enterprises and PCCW Hong Kong, has announced that it has received the necessary security clearances to start international long distance (ILD) services and would commence commercial operations from the midnight of July 22.

This makes it the second private operator after Bharti Telesonic Ltd to offer ILD services in competition to Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL).

According to a statement from the company, with this, Data Access India would be able to provide Indian telecom users connectivity to each and every destination across the world with a brand new state-of-art packet switched network "which is capable of delivering higher voice quality and enhanced service features".

The statement notes that the network has been fully tested by both MTNL and BSNL and is quality approved for carrying international traffic originating from India. The network is interconnected with both BSNL and MTNL at seven points of interconnect across the country and provides several layers of redundancy for both incoming and outgoing traffic.

Mr Sidhartha Ray, Managing Director, Data Access, noted that the company is the only operator in the country to have a network, which is capable of carrying the entire traffic from India on its own network right up to the network node of the final carrier.

Meanwhile, in a related development, BSNL has noted that all its subscribers will be able to avail themselves of the lower ISD rates (down by up to 40 per cent) from the midnight of July 22.
