Asian Social Forum meet to be held in Jan

Our Bureau

THE meeting of the Asian Social Forum (ASF-2003), which seeks to provide common ground to people sharing views on alternatives to globalisation and multinational corporations, will be held in Hyderabad during January 2-7.

According to Mr Vijay Pratap, founding member of Lokayan, a Delhi-based NGO and major activist of the World Social Forum from the country, ASF-2003 would give a counter imagination of what the World Bank, IMF and multinational corporation-driven World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting generally echo.

An India Working Group of the WSF was being formed and currently nearly 75 organisations, including the likes of the People Science movement, Civil Liberties, are in the fold.

Hyderabad has been chosen to host ASF-2003, keeping in mind economic reforms, World Bank-funded initiatives and other economic activity under way, he told newspersons.
