Outlook Data warehousing Teradata aims at 20 per cent market share Our Bureau
MUMBAI, Aug 14 TERADATA, the data warehousing and customer relationship management (CRM) division of NCR Corporation India, is targeting a 20 per cent market share of the estimated Rs 125-crore data warehousing solutions market in India for the 2002 calendar year. According to Mr B. Amrish Rau, Business Manager - India, Teradata Division, NCR, ``The current market size for data warehousing in India is estimated to be around Rs 125 crore and for this year we are targeting a share of 20 per cent translating into revenues of over Rs 20 crore from data warehousing and CRM alone.'' NCR India, with a turnover of over Rs 250 crore, is a subsidiary of the $6 billion NCR Corporation, which focuses on three areas automatic teller machines (ATMs), retail systems and datawharehousing and CRM, which is handled by Teradata. In India, Teradata, which has so far focused on the banking and financial services as well as telecom sector, is also eyeing the organised retail and the Government sector. ``Our main focus has been banking and finance so far and in the 18 months since we started operations, Teradata has already acquired five customers including ICICI, Centurion Bank and TVS-E. We are also in close talks with a few telecom companies and that should take off soon,'' Mr Rau said. ``However, we are keeping a close watch on the Government and retail sector. However, the Government companies, apart from banks and telecom companies, are currently in the process of setting up sources of data. So the need for data warehousing will come in later. As for organised retailing, it has still to pick up momentum. Therefore, it will take another year before we can start work on these two sectors,'' he added. NCR Corporation India, which employs 350 people, currently operates out of the four metros and Bangalore and has 100 support centres across the country.
