NEW DELHI, Sept. 3

THE export scenario for the domestic small and medium sector is on an upswing for the next six months. This has been indicated by the 17th Business Outlook survey for small and medium enterprises conducted by the Confederation of Indian Industry .

The survey, conducted by CII Small Business Council, has also highlighted issues such as cost of credit and procedural bottlenecks as factors that would play a crucial role in the export growth rate in the next six months.

The survey, based on feedback of approximately 65 per cent (exporters) of the 1,000 responses from CII's SME members, has shown a moderate impact on exports following dismantling of the Quantitative Restrictions (QRs). It showed that 53 per cent of the respondents were concerned over the decline in their profit margins due to increase in competition.

The survey also showed that 56 per cent of the respondents envisaged an increase in the volume of their exports, 34 per cent felt that the market would be stagnant, while 10 per cent of the respondents expected a decline in their exports in the next six months. However, in value terms, 58 per cent of the respondents projected an increase in exports while 31 per cent expected it to remain the same; 11 per cent of the respondents expected it to decrease in the next six months.
