Plan to construct vented dams

MANGALORE:A Rs 108-crore plan to construct 435 vented dams across west-flowing rivers originating in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka has been chalked out.

The project is expected to facilitate irrigation of 13,446 hectares in the region, according to the President of the DK Zilla Panchayat, Ms Jyoti R. Salian.

A project proposal is to be prepared by the Department of Minor Irrigation and after the approval of the Chief Engineer of the Minor Irrigation Department in Bangalore, is to be put before the Union Ministry concerned.

Of the 435 vented dams, 150 are to be in Mangalore taluk, 90 in Bantwal taluk, 40 in Belthangady taluk, 86 in Puttur taluk and 69 in Sullia taluk.
