Orthodox tea firm at Kochi sale

A MIXED trend was witnessed in the tea auction prices here during the week with the CTC market irregular and lower while orthodox firm and occasionally dearer.

A total quantity of 7,30,000 kg were on offer in the dust sales. General demand was fair. CTC market was irregular and lower. Towards the close of the sale the drop was more. Orthodox easier. The prices quoted in the dust sale were best CTC Rs 52-72, medium CTC RS 42-46, poorer type Rs 30-38, medium BOPD Rs 34-49, secondaries Rs 27-33. In the leaf sales section 3,21,000 kg were on offer and there was a good general demand. Orthodox mediums, highgrown brokens and fannings were steady to firm and occasionally dearer following quality. CTCs were steadier to tending easier.

Prices quoted were best Nilgiri Rs 59-66 (brokens), Rs 59-91(fannings), medium orthodox Rs 43-52 (brokens), Rs 35-45(fannings), best CTC leaf Rs 41-45(brokens) Rs 49, medium CTC leaf Rs 39-44(brokens) Rs 34-39 (fannings).

In the dust section, top prices of Rs 79 and Rs 77 were fetched by Pasuparai SFD and Pasuparai GD respectively while in leaf sales Chamraj OP got the highest price of Rs 110 per kg followed by Chamraj FOP Rs 99 per kg.
