E&Y award for Narayana Murthy

MR N.R. Narayana Murthy, Chairman and Chief Mentor of Infosys Technologies, was today conferred with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) award for 2002.

Cheering Mr Narayana Murthy were Mr Arun Jaitley, former Union Minister for Law, Justice and Company Affairs, Mr R.V. Deshpande, Industries Minister, Government of Karnataka, among a host of top industrialists, professionals and government officials present at the glittering EOY awards ceremony.

Mr Narayana Murthy will represent India at the Ernst and Young's World Entrepreneur of the Year Award ceremony at Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2003. He will also attend the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year International Conference at Palm Springs, California from November 21-24.

MRF Ltd's founder, Mr K.M. Mammen Mappillai, received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Dr Naresh Trehan, co-founder of the Escorts Heart Institute, won the award in the services category. The award for manufacturing went to Mr Ratul Puri of Moser Baer, while Mr Premod Bhasin of GE Gapital India was named the Manager Entrepreneur of the Year.

Mr Rajesh Hukku of i-flex solutions got the award in the Information Technology, Communications and Entertainment segment while Ms Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Managing Director of Biocon India Group, bagged the Healthcare and Lifesciences award. The Start-up Entrepreneur of the Year was Mr Sanjeev Aggrawal of Daksh services, an IT-enabled services company.

The awards were decided by an eminent jury comprising Mr Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Mr Janaki Ballabh, Chairman, SBI, Dr Omkar Goswami, chief economist, CII, Dr Rakesh Mohan, Deputy Governor, RBI, Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, CMD, Bharti Enterprises, and Mr N. Sankar, Chairman, Sanmar Group.
