Entertainment & Leisure Toonz Animation working on adventures of Tenali Raman Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, Oct. 30 TARGETING toon lovers across ages, the Thiruvananthapuram-based Toonz Animation India, is set to roll out indigenously developed and locally scripted animation stuff based on the adventures of Tenali Raman. Its Chief Executive Officer and President, Mr Bill Dennis, said what was being attempted by Toonz was radically different from what had thus far been offered by others. Since this relates to people here, they get involved and enjoy this much more than what others provide. "The adventures of Tenali Raman is a classic example of the kind of opportunities in India for animation. We are currently developing four projects and we believe our stories, most of which are based on Indian mythology, will appeal to children and families around the world. With about a third of the population below 14 years, India offers a huge opportunity for animation films," he said. Set for launch in India during January next, the 26-episode Tenali Raman, will debut in other markets later. Of this, 15 episodes of 11 minutes have been finished, and the script and work on the rest of the 11 episodes is underway. Toonz Animation India, which occupies about 18,000 sq.ft space, at Techno Park located in Thiruvananthapuram, has one of the most advanced studios in the country. Having about 500 Indian and international artistes, Toonz has thus far invested about $5 million in the Indian project. India is emerging as an animation super house. With abundant talent, and its relative cost effective nature, the country can play a major role in production of such animation pictures. "We have spent about $700,000 towards this thus far in contrast to about $ 3 million that would have been necessary for a similar project in the US," Mr Dennis said.
