Japanese trade team coming

Our Bureau

KOLKATA, Nov. 14

A HIGH-LEVEL business delegation from Japan will visit India between December 18 and 21.

"The visit, being organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, will cover Bangalore and Kolkata'', Mr S K Birla, Chairman, India-Japan Business Cooperation Committees (IJBCC), FICCI, told Business Line.

Set up in 1967 when Mr L.N. Birla was the President of FICCI, IJBCC is the oldest of the 38 joint business councils FICCI has with as many countries.

The delegation comprising 40 members would represent almost all major business houses of Japan, Mr Birla said, pointing out that the representatives of JETRO and Japanese Industrial Bank were likely to be included in the delegation. A top executive of Honda would head the delegation.

In Bangalore, the formal inauguration of the meeting would be by the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr S.M. Krishna. It would be followed by a visit of the delegation members to various technology centres in the city. On the second day, there would be one-to-one discussion.
