NEW DELHI, Nov. 14
AGAINST the backdrop of increased exploitation of resources and the consequent climate change, the Minister for Science and Technology, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, has called for stronger scientific ties with the member countries of the European Union (EU) to do collaborative work in this segment. .
``Strengthening of the scientific and technological collaboration between India and European Union would be greatly beneficial not only to these nations but the entire world,'' he said at the European Policy Centre at Brussels, where he was a special invitee to speak on India's contribution to the segment.
Only last month, it was decided to set up a centre for capacity building on climate change in India. This decision was also taken because any study on climate control would have to begin from the Indian Ocean as it has greater influence on atmospheric changes, he said seeking both financial and technological support for the centre.
Stating that India had achieved self-sufficiency and excellence in some selected areas of science and technology, he added, that India was making all efforts to encourage not only national but also international collaboration with both the advanced and developing countries.
Indian research institutions had attained global standards and had been evolving cost-effective technologies, which were being patented and commercialised rather successfully, he added.
