Low arrivals cause price hike!

A. Roy Chowdhury

Oranges lined up at the Gaddiannaram wholesale fruit market in Hyderabad. Lower yields owing to bad weather in Maharashtra have led to a fall in the inflow of the fruit. This year only 2-5 lorries of oranges have been coming into the State every day against an average of 10-15 lorries per day during every season, say market officials. Following shortage in supply, orange prices have gone up to Rs 150-300 per box as compared to Rs 75-150 last year.
