MUMBAI, Dec. 12
MAHANAGAR Gas Ltd, a GAIL and British Gas joint venture, plans to add another 17 compressed natural gas outlets in Mumbai by March 2003. This will take the number of gas stations in the natural gas-starved city to 55 outlets.
The company on Thursday opened its 38th CNG filling station in the city. Currently, the company supplies roughly 0.7 million standard cubic metres per day of compressed and piped natural gas to the city.
"We are trying to reach a point where we can fully use the 1.5 million standard cubic metres of per day gas allocation available to us,'' said a senior company official.
The company plans to set up a wide network of 55 CNG stations across the city with 204 dispensing units having a compression capacity of 5.45 lakh kg per day by March 2003, a news release quoted Mr A.K. Purwaha, MGL's Managing Director.
The additional dispensing units are expected to resolve problems related to CNG availability faced by commercial vehicles in Mumbai, the release said.
The company has plans to supply piped natural gas to over 6 lakh households and 4,500 commercial and industrial consumers in Mumbai apart from supplying CNG to private and commercial vehicles.
